Vice President, Benefits, Compensation, and HR Systems Customer Satisfaction

AutoZone, Inc.

Bio

Matthew Harmon has 25+ years of deep domain expertise in Human Resources.  He joined AutoZone Inc. in September of 2014 as the Director of Benefits and within 6 months he took on HR systems where he was primarily responsible for strategically driving a culture of wellbeing through healthcare consumerism, financial wellness, and productivity while ensuring the right HR systems, insights, process, and leadership/partnership was in place to drive the business and its workforce forward.

In December 2017 Harmon was promoted to an Officer of the company and a member of the company’s CEO team as the Vice President of Benefits, Compensation, and HR Systems.  Matthew reports directly to the company’s Chief Human Resource Officer for whom he frequently fills in for or engages directly with the Executive Committee, Compensation Committee, Audit Committee and Board of Directors.

In his short tenure Harmon transformed a “behind the times” HR ecosystem into cutting edge through a very transparent strategic roadmap.  This roadmap partnered with the Executive Committee and led the organization to better benefits at a lower more sustainable cost, a robust mobile experience with a single point of access, clear employee value proposition, and accessible business intelligence.  The strategy has enabled an ascent to the cloud for total rewards, applicant tracking, onboarding, learning management, and most recently Human Capital Management, Payroll, and related business intelligence analytics.  These enhancements are already driving significant results in the employee value proposition, population health, financial stewardship.

Harmon is responsible for onsite, co-located, and outsourced providers, and a significant set of financials including total compensation and benefits spends.

Having over 25 years of experience Harmon is extremely involved in the HR community and innovation through thought leadership and execution.  He also sits on a myriad of healthcare advisory boards.

His prior experience includes over 5 years at J.C. Penney Co. where in recognition of his outstanding work, he was awarded Business Insurance Magazine’s 2013 Benefits Manager of the Year and received JCPenney’s Chairman’s Award of Excellence in 2009.   Before JCPenney, Harmon spent nearly 11 years as a practitioner at Hewitt Associates, now Alight, in many and varied administration and consultative roles working with small to jumbo clients in every industry.

Matthew’s unique, high energy and consumer focused approach leads organizations through cross functional teams to creating better population engagement and superior business results.

Harmon earned undergraduate degrees in Finance and Business Management from the University of Florida where he graduated with Honors.
