Bio

Dr. Shital Desai oversees the clinical care delivered across the District of Columbia and surrounding areas of Maryland to over 375,000 patients at Kaiser Permanente’s integrated outpatient medical centers, contracted hospitals and affiliated skilled nursing facilities. She is one of three physicians in chief of the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group, which employs more than 1,700 physicians in 60 specialties. These doctors provide care exclusively to Kaiser Permanente members in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia.

In addition to her current role as physician in chief of Kaiser Permanente’s District of Columbia and Suburban Maryland service area, Dr. Desai also serves as chair of the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group Board of Directors.

Prior to her current leadership roles, Dr. Desai served as the chief of Adult and Family Medicine for the District of Columbia and suburban Maryland service area; physician site lead for Kaiser Permanente’s Largo, Camp Springs and Marlow Heights medical centers; and module lead for Kaiser Permanente’s Largo Adult and Family Medicine department. She is also a past president of the Prince George’s County Medical Society.

Dr. Desai is a board-certified family medicine physician. She received her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and her medical degree from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. She completed her family medicine training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where she also served as chief resident.
