What is the top challenge or obstacle facing health care today?

There is a lack of focus in the US on preventative care and more on treating conditions driving significant costs to the system and a lower quality of life to patients and their caregivers.

To the above point – the majority of Incentives are misaligned – physicians, settings of care, payers, patients, risk share arrangements all have different incentives, whether that is both clinically or financially or perhaps both causing a lack of transparency and high total cost of care.

What is the most promising development in health care that you have come across, and why?

The digitization of healthcare – specifically the functionality of AI or help diagnose or treat patients earlier and better

What has you most optimistic about the future of health care?

Personalized medicine, digital innovation and true population health management

How do you think health care stakeholders can bring care closer to consumers/patients?

Better access and communication with physicians and health care providers. Clearer understanding of policies, therapies on the market and preventative strategies

What motivates you to keep doing the work that you do?

To continue bringing innovation in the therapies that are developed and also in the approach to commercialize them. Very much looking forward to moving the needle in population health where there are clinical and financial alignments around a specific patient population. Fostering how that is done and expanding to different populations of patients through personalization (therapies, digitization, prevention, etc).  

What’s the one piece of advice you would give to an aspiring health care leader?

Never pass up the opportunity to build an extensive network and deep relationships.

What does health care disruption mean to you?

Grit, perseverance and courage to take a new path
