Fast Five with Monte Masten, MD, MBA, MPH

What challenges or gaps in care are you focused on?

Primarily now, we are heavily focused on mental health in our data and consulting work with clients.  Metabolic syndrome, chronic musculoskeletal conditions, social determinants of health and DEI initiatives are also areas of focus.

What initiatives are you currently spearheading to improve health?

Worker’s Health 360 is a new Marsh/MMA initiative; we are focused on incorporating Worker’s Compensation data, Absence/Disability/Leave data, and other data sources such as 401k, etc., to paint a more complete picture and line of insight for our clients into employee health.

What necessary collaborations/partnerships have you established within and/or outside of your organization in developing your initiatives?

We have a Vendor Innovation Council (VIC) within MMA that has met with approximately 80 vendors (start-ups, established companies, etc.) in the last year and a half.  We meet with them to understand their programs, pricing, how they work with employers, outcomes, etc.  We have implemented many of these with clients.

What is your measurement criteria for success/or current measurable improvements have you realized from the initiative?

We have internally developed approximately 100 dashboards and data stories to help clients understand the ROI and VOI of their initiatives.

What gives your hope for the future in health care?

I am excited about AI and Predictive Analytics, as well as advances in cancer treatments based on mRNA research from the COVID vaccines, and also about hospital at home.
